"Police were called at approximately 08:20 BST on Friday, 15 September to Parsons Green Underground Station following reports of a fire on the train".

Witnesses reported seeing passengers covered in blood and with facial burns and hair coming off at Parsons Green station in west London after the explosion on the train.

The U.K. has suffered at least five attacks since March of this year, including two bridge attacks with vehicles and knives in London, a vehicle attack outside a London mosque, and the bombing at the Ariana Grande concert in Manchester which killed 22 people and injured dozens.

Police announced the arrest in the Port-city of Dover Saturday; following an urgent manhunt for suspects connected to the terror attack. He said the investigation is ongoing and the terror threat level remains at "critical".

Basu added: "For strong investigative reasons we will not give any more details on the man we arrested at this stage".

She said: "The public will see more armed police on the transport network and on our streets, providing extra protection".

This is the fifth attack the police have classified as "terrorist" in the UK this year.

In a statement on its official channel on the messaging app Telegram, the group said the attack was "carried out by a detachment of the Islamic State".

The claim of responsibility came as the UK's terror alert level was raised to critical, with military troops set to bolster police forces as they hunt the bomber.

The device is being forensically examined while detectives are scouring CCTV and examining witness statements for potential leads.

None of the injuries are considered serious or life threatening.

"Another attack in London by a loser terrorist", Trump wrote on Twitter. "They will be caught and brought to justice".
