Britain's chief counter terrorism officer, Mark Rowley, said last night that this is a very complex police investigation which is continuing at speed.

The U.K. has suffered at least five attacks since March, including two bridge attacks with vehicles and knives in London, a vehicle attack outside a London mosque and the bombing at the Ariana Grande concert in Manchester that killed 22 people and injured dozens.

The suspect will be moved to a south London police station, the Metropolitan Police said.

The 21-year-old man remains in custody in a South London police station, the Met said.

The bomb exploded at 8:20 a.m. on an eastbound District Line train leaving the Parsons Green station in Southwest London.

"Everyone just piled out of the tube and there was a distinct smell of burning".

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of the blast as we wish them a speedy recovery", he said.

May said the military would be providing support to police and would replace officers on guard duty at national infrastructure sites that are not accessible to the public.

Police are combing through closed-circuit TV images and have extensively studied the remains of the device without giving details about it.

An 18-year-old man was arrested in Dover this morning in connection with the attack.

"This is a proportionate and sensible step which will provide extra reassurance and protection while the investigation progresses".

The terror threat level in Britain has been raised to the highest level of "critical", which means a terror attack is imminent.

The bomb was hidden in a plastic bucket inside a supermarket freezer bag that went off at rush hour.

The toll was revised upwards by one early Saturday.

Abella said the Philippine embassy in London is closely monitoring the situation in the United Kingdom.
