South Korean President Moon Jae-in said on Tuesday it would not be easy for North Korea to completely destroy its nuclear weapons in a short time considering the state of its arsenal.

The Seoul-Beijing relations quickly soured after the deployment of the THAAD U.S. missile defense system in South Korea earlier this year.

The meeting follows Moon's bilateral summit with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping in Danang, Vietnam last week.

SEOUL - The U.S. government confirmed Monday that it intends to initiate dialogue with North Korea as far as its denuclearization is concerned, a U.S. broadcaster reported.

Abe nevertheless said it was significant that he and Xi had agreed to deepen cooperation on North Korea, adding he would continue to make efforts to improve ties with China.

The resolution, also known as the "Olympic Truce", is adopted every two years ahead of the Summer and Winter Olympic games to declare a truce and safe passage for all participants during the athletic events.

China and South Korea have agreed to restore bilateral relations to a "normal development path swiftly", the foreign ministry in Seoul said in a statement in October.

"At the end of the meeting, President Xi said this is a meeting that marks a fresh start of relations between Japan and China". Chinese President Xi Jinping mentioned the THAAD issue during his summit with South Korean President Moon Jae-in in Da Nang, Vietnam, on Nov. 11.

"It's a great pleasure that our two peoples are deepening mutual understanding and friendship through close exchanges", he added.

It was the death of a South Korean businessman at the hands of the Philippines' own police force that led Duterte to temporarily strip cops of their leadership role in his controversial drug war. "Since China has not retracted its official position that THAAD damages its strategic interests, the THAAD issue continues to simmer and could still boil over under the right circumstances", said Lee Hui-ok, director of the Sungkyun Institute of China Studies. These comments hint at alarm at the prospect of Beijing being allowed to interfere in the East Asian security order being built by Washington.

In a letter addressed to U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Ja Song-nam, Pyongyang's top envoy to the U.N., said the carrier groups' joint exercises with South Korea were creating "the worst ever situation" in the region, according to foreign news reports. "China will be watching to see how the 'three no's' are actually implemented".

The two leaders last met in July in Berlin, on the sidelines of the Group of 20, or G-20, summit. Xi reportedly said he would try to visit, and that in case he is unable to attend he will send a high-level delegation instead. "President Xi's reputation is on the line here", said Kim Jun-hyeong, a professor at Handong Global University.
